Fury’s Restaurant Serves an Old-Style Seafood Gumbo

In all the years I’ve lived in the New Orleans area, I have heard about Fury’s Restaurant but have never eaten there. I also heard that most of the people who eat there have been doing so for a long time and they are getting up in age. It is a small restaurant that does seem to cater to the boomer market and to regulars.

Furys Gumbo_aThey only have a Louisiana Seafood Gumbo which comes in two sizes. A cup for $5.50 and a bowl for $6.50. I was so tempted to order the bowl but I didn’t. They also have a combo where you can get a 1/2 Po Boy with a cup of their Louisiana Seafood Gumbo and a house salad for $11.00. I ordered the cup and here is what I found. The Gumboroma was perfect but you could see it was loaded with okra which did give it a slight slime factor. The gumbo had a good spice level and had plenty of small shrimp. The rice was warm and a little crunchy. I am used to getting a higher spice level towards the bottom of the cup but that wasn’t the case with this gumbo.
