Christmas on the River in Monroe-West Monroe

It’s Christmas on the River in Monroe-West Monroe, LA and the whole month of December is filled with holiday events, music, lights and lots of Christmas spirit!  

Downtown Monroe and Antique Alley, across the river in West Monroe, will light up the area with incredible lighting features that dance to the Christmas tunes.  Shoppers, don’t miss December 15 on Trenton Street on for special bargains at the antiques shops assisted by shopkeepers dressed in vintage holiday attire. 
Christmas at the Biedenharn features beautiful holiday decorations throughout the historic Biedenharn Home and Elsong Gardens. It is the perfect backdrop for some stunning family photos. (You can bet  many families bring their kids and cameras to take advantage of the Biedenharn for Christmas cards pictures!) 
Santa’s Christmas Village at the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum provides lots of holiday fun like walking through the snow, ice skating, making your own ornaments, cookie decorating, and climbing into a snow globe for photos. Make sure your children bring along their letters to Santa because they can mail them to him at the Peppermint Post Office.
The Freedom Tree at Chennault Aviation and Military Museum is also a sight to see.  The 20’ tall tree honors veterans and service men and women by using medals, patches, and photos as ornaments.
Monroe-West Monroe is a part of Louisiana’s historic Holiday Trail of Lights. Along with her sister cities Alexandria-Pineville, Minden, Natchitoches and Shreveport-Bossier, the Holiday Trail of Lights has been getting people into the holiday spirit for more than 2 decades by offering beautiful displays of  lights, fireworks, live entertainment, Christmas musicals and parades.            
Another nice thing to do in the area is taking in the delightful decorations and displays in Calhoun. The viewings are every night from 5:00-9:00 pm. But if you’re traveling with children, plan this for a Saturday, because Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there from 6:00-9:00 pm with some delicious refreshments. Plus, Mrs. Claus is giving out presents to the first 100 kids!
